The short answer

The right Goodcall alternative depends on what you need that Goodcall's site doesn't list. If you need more languages or outbound calls, Dialzara and My AI Front Desk list both, and Calldone adds a team that builds the agent for you. For simple English and Spanish answering, look at Rosie. For real people, choose Smith.ai or Ruby.

Key takeaways

  • As of October 2026, Goodcall says its assistant Gabi builds your agent from a plain-language description, and it lists English as its only language today.
  • Goodcall bills per unique customer each month rather than per minute, which can favor businesses whose calls run long.
  • Outbound calling is not listed on Goodcall's site, so reminder and follow-up campaigns need a different tool.
  • Calldone suits owners who would rather have a team write, test and tune the agent than build it themselves.
  • Goodcall stays a good fit for English-only businesses that like making their own edits and want month-to-month terms.

A Goodcall alternative makes sense when you need something Goodcall's site does not list today, such as languages beyond English or outbound calling, or when you would rather not build the agent yourself. We make Calldone, which competes with Goodcall. Everything we say about Goodcall and the other vendors comes from their own websites, read on October 13, 2026, and linked in the sources list.

This page covers how Goodcall works now, where it may fall short, six options in one table, per-customer versus per-minute billing, and the honest case for staying put. No prices: they change.

What is Goodcall and how does it work?

Goodcall is an AI answering service for small businesses that you build by describing what you want. As of October 2026, goodcall.com says its assistant, Gabi, turns plain-language instructions into a working phone agent, with "no code and nothing to configure." The company says it began inside Google in 2017.

You brief Gabi on services, hours and even how to say your business name, or upload a website or PDF, then hear the result on practice calls in your browser. Nothing reaches callers until you publish, and changes can be rolled back. Once live, its pages say the agent:

  • Answers 24/7, every call or only the ones you miss, through forwarding or a new local number.
  • Sorts callers into new, existing, urgent or spam, asks your qualifying questions in your order, and spells back names and numbers.
  • Books into Google Calendar and connects to Google Sheets and HighLevel; other systems need an API tool or MCP server.
  • Puts callers through to your team, retries a busy line, and works through up to three contacts before taking details and texting you.
  • Records and transcribes every call.

Goodcall publishes its plans on its pricing page, and its FAQ says every plan is month to month.

Where Goodcall may not fit

Goodcall is built for owners who want to do the building, in English, for incoming calls. If one of those assumptions breaks for your business, look further:

  • Callers who speak other languages. Goodcall's how-it-works page answers the language question with "English, today." A landscaper whose customers often call in Spanish needs more.
  • Calls you need to make, not just take. An auto repair shop that wants to ring customers when a car is ready, or remind them about a service, won't find outbound calling on Goodcall's site.
  • No appetite for building. Even a friendly assistant needs someone deciding what the agent says. If nobody has that hour each week, a managed service fits better.
  • Software Goodcall doesn't name. Beyond its named connections, you set up an API tool or MCP server. A law firm on Clio may prefer a vendor that connects to it directly.
  • Callers who expect a person. Goodcall tells callers they are speaking with an AI assistant. Some businesses want a human voice on every call.

What is a good alternative to Goodcall?

A good alternative to Goodcall is one that closes the gap you actually hit. For a self-serve tool with outbound calls and 10+ languages, Dialzara. For a team-built agent with outbound campaigns and many languages, Calldone. For an all-channel platform, My AI Front Desk. For English and Spanish answering, Rosie. For human staff, Smith.ai or Ruby.

Goodcall alternatives, compared one by one

Ordered for a Goodcall user who has hit the language or outbound gap: closest self-serve swap first, then managed, broader and human options.

Dialzara

Dialzara is the nearest like-for-like swap if you enjoy setting things up yourself. As of October 2026, its homepage promises setup in 15 minutes, and its features page lists Google Calendar and Outlook booking, 10+ languages with automatic detection, outbound calls for reminders and reactivation, and a two-way SMS agent.

  • Best for: a self-serve owner who needs Spanish or Chinese callers handled, or wants outbound reminders, without giving up control of the setup.
  • Check: named CRMs are not listed on its features page, which points to Zapier, Make, webhooks and API access instead. It advertises a 7-day free trial.

Calldone

Calldone replaces the build-it-yourself model with a done-for-you one. After a short discovery call, our team writes the agent's instructions, trains it on your FAQs, tunes its voice, connects Google Calendar or your CRM, and tests real scenarios with you before it speaks to a live caller. Each call then shows a recording, transcript, summary and outcome. The agent can text callers, transfer by your rules and run outbound campaigns from a contact list. Pin it to English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Arabic or many others, or let it detect the caller's language.

  • Best for: owners who want Goodcall-style answering without building it, especially if they need other languages, outbound calls, or GoHighLevel, Clio, Tebra or CureMD. Other systems usually connect through custom actions or webhooks; we confirm during setup.
  • Check: there is no free demo or trial, and setup takes as long as it takes you to send scripts, details and system access. Plans are on our pricing page, with no cancellation fees; monthly terms, with optional 6- and 12-month terms on larger plans.

My AI Front Desk

My AI Front Desk, which now calls itself Frontdesk, is the broadest of these platforms. Its site describes one AI handling voice, SMS, WhatsApp, email and chat, 20+ languages, outbound calls and texts, and booking into Google Calendar, Outlook or Calendly. It syncs to HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive, and names property-management, therapy and retail systems too.

  • Best for: self-serve owners who have outgrown a phone-only tool and want every channel in one place.
  • Check: its pricing page sets a daily limit on outbound calls for the self-serve plan and puts white-glove onboarding on Partner/Enterprise. Our My AI Front Desk alternatives post goes deeper.

Rosie

Rosie is a phone-first AI receptionist for solo owners and small teams. Its homepage says it learns from your website and Google Business Profile in minutes and answers in English and Spanish around the clock. Its help center documents home-service tools such as Jobber, Housecall Pro, Workiz and ServiceM8, and calendars such as Calendly and Acuity.

  • Best for: a trade business that needs Spanish-speaking callers covered and already runs a CRM Rosie documents.
  • Check: direct calendar booking and live transfers start on its Scale plan, and outbound calling is not listed. There is a 7-day free trial. See our Rosie AI alternatives guide.

Smith.ai

Smith.ai mixes AI and people. Its site offers AI-first, hybrid and human-first answering, 24/7 coverage, English and Spanish, and intake flows tailored to law practice areas. Its AI Receptionist page names Salesforce, HubSpot, Clio Grow and Clio Manage, and says a human from its Live Agent Network can be brought into a call.

  • Best for: law firms and service businesses that want a human backstop on difficult calls.
  • Check: outbound follow-up is tied to its Virtual Receptionist plans. Our Smith.ai alternatives page has more.

Ruby

Ruby answers with trained people rather than software. Its homepage says live receptionists cover your line 24/7, weekends and holidays included, in English and Spanish, and can schedule appointments, collect payments and make outbound calls.

  • Best for: businesses whose callers expect a person and are worth the cost of one.
  • Check: Ruby uses AI behind the scenes, not on the call, so this is a staffing service rather than an AI agent.

Per-customer or per-minute billing: which suits you?

Per-customer billing suits businesses with long calls from a steady set of callers; a minute-based plan suits businesses with many short calls or outbound campaigns. Goodcall counts each unique phone number once a month, according to its pricing page, so repeat calls from the same person count once and spam doesn't count.

Most other AI receptionists, Calldone included, sell a plan with a pool of conversation minutes. Calldone's plans come on monthly terms, with optional 6- and 12-month terms on larger plans. It meters time per second, and inbound calls, outbound calls and website widget chats all draw from the same pool. Running past it doesn't cut you off; extra time bills at the plan's overage rate. Rosie's and My AI Front Desk's pricing pages also describe monthly usage allowances.

To compare fairly, take a month of call logs and note two numbers: how many different people called, and the total minutes. Then price both models with each vendor. Our AI receptionist cost guide lists the extras worth asking about.

When should you stay with Goodcall?

Stay with Goodcall if your callers speak English, you only need inbound answering, and you like making changes yourself. Its build-by-conversation approach is quick to adjust, and nothing reaches callers until you publish, which is a careful way to change a live phone agent.

  • You want to edit the agent by typing or talking as often as you like; its pricing page says plain-English edits are unlimited on every plan.
  • Your calls are long but come from a fairly small group of callers, so per-customer billing works in your favor.
  • You work in HighLevel or Google Sheets, which it connects to directly.
  • You need a BAA for patient calls: its FAQ says it signs one on the Scale and Enterprise plans.
  • You want to hear it before paying: the free demo agent lets you build and test before connecting a number.

What to ask before you leave Goodcall

  • Who writes the first version of the agent, and who fixes it when a call goes wrong?
  • Which of your callers' languages does it speak, and can you hear the voice in each one?
  • Does it book into the calendar or CRM you use today, or only collect details?
  • Can it call your customers, not just answer them?
  • How does it hand a caller to a person, and what happens if nobody picks up?
  • Are there contracts, cancellation fees or minimum terms?
  • Can you keep your number by forwarding it?

Then phone the agent yourself, go off-script, interrupt it and ask for a human. Five minutes of that tells you more than any comparison page, this one included. For background on how these systems work, read our explainer on AI voice agents, or compare the wider field in our best AI receptionist roundup.

Frequently asked questions

Is Goodcall free?

Goodcall is not free to run on a live phone line. As of October 2026, its FAQ says there is no free trial; instead you get a free demo agent you can build and test at no cost. Payment starts when you add a phone number and choose a plan. Goodcall publishes its plans on its pricing page.

Does Goodcall speak Spanish?

Not as of October 2026. Goodcall's how-it-works page answers the language question with "English, today." If Spanish-speaking callers matter to you, Rosie, Smith.ai and Ruby list English and Spanish, Dialzara lists 10+ languages and My AI Front Desk lists 20+. Calldone agents can be pinned to Spanish or set to detect the caller's language automatically.

Can Goodcall make outbound calls?

Outbound calling to customers is not listed on Goodcall's site as of October 2026; its pages describe inbound answering, transfers and texting you the lead. If you want appointment reminders or follow-up calls, Calldone, Dialzara and My AI Front Desk each list outbound calling, and Smith.ai offers it on its Virtual Receptionist plans.

How does Goodcall charge?

Goodcall's pricing page says it bills per unique customer, not per minute or per call. A unique customer is one phone number counted once a month, so repeat calls from the same person count once and spam or wrong numbers don't count. Each plan includes an allowance, and extra customers bill at that plan's own rate.

Is Calldone easier to set up than Goodcall?

It is less work for you, though not instant. Goodcall's assistant builds the agent from your description, and you test and publish it yourself. With Calldone, our team learns your business on a short call, then writes, trains and tests the agent with you. Timing depends mostly on how quickly you share scripts, details and system access.

Will Goodcall sign a BAA for healthcare calls?

As of October 2026, Goodcall's FAQ says it supports protected health information on its Scale or Enterprise plan once you sign a Business Associate Agreement. Calldone does not act as a HIPAA business associate unless agreed in writing, so healthcare offices should contact us about regulated-industry requirements before going live.
